OSS NORSO Group memorial

Previous | Photo index | Next

In 1999 the NORSO veterans Leif Oistad and Ron Windh came back to their drop-zone in Sweden for the first time thanks to the local teacher Gösta Olsson (left in the photograph). It was then decided to erect a monument commemorating the drop by the lake on which the five NORSO men landed. The OSS NORSO Group memorial in Lien was thus inaugarated by Ron Windh (standing on the stone) and Vice-mayor Rolf Lilja on the 23rd of October 2000. The monument is composed of local Offerdal stone topped with a plaque from Apatity. There is also a notice board by the monument, explaining the mission of the group. To reach the site drive to Krokom and then through the small village of Lien towards lake Landösjön. Drive along the shore towards the east for about one kilometre.
